Scrapbooking with flowers, ribbons and all things beautiful -- with BOYS!

If you're like me, a Mother to Boys and a little more then addicted to scrapbooking - the paper, ribbons, flowers, buttons, glitter, you might be wondering how to incorporate all those finds into the perfect layout! I'm here to help! At least, I'll try. I've been scrapbooking for about 8 years and have only recently decided I was done with holding back on all the beautiful embellishments and am going to start using them. Hope you enjoy my journey!

Hello Sunshine!

Right now, the boys are a little nuts, ok, maybe a lot!  They are supposed to be eating their lunch, and instead they're swinging that pretend baseball bat again, and calling me the 'Hot Girl Hog'....what does that mean?  Hot Dog, Hot Dog, Hot Diggity Dog!  Well, what can I say?  I am sort of contributing to the chaos, lack of focus and bit of crazed energy that appears to be gripping them now.  I've spent an hour (maybe two) scrapbooking and as much as it calms me, I must say it does nothing for them.  My wonderful hubby is away, in Vegas of all places, and I decided if they wanted to do their thing, why not do mine?  So, now that I'm done with a page, yes one page, I figure time to get back to being Mom.

Today's page is inspired by Color Combo Galore, and if you've never tried a challenge like this - try it!  This is Challenge 153, http://colorcombosgalore.ning.com/ and it was great to again, be forced to break outside of my normal mold!  I went back, 4 years in picture time, to use these adorable pictures of my nephew, Shane.  He is just a bundle of energy.  I can't imagine how chaotic it would be if the three of them got together now - let me say, that I would not be scrapbooking.  Too fun and hope you like it!

Some close up of the details.  This flower is so easy to make!  You simply need some strips of paper, crinkle, them accordian style, and then layer around a sturdy circle of sorts.

REBEL Boys of Summer

It's that time of day when I am dying to create something, looking through my photos, sifting through supplies and I come across this little 'chippy'. Having only recently discovered 'Dusty Attic' I stare at its beautiful detail, this elegant flower and think - it's just gorgeous! But wait, I pause, gorgeous? What is gorgeous about these goofy looking photos of my two guys proudly wearing their new styled Mohawks? Gorgeous? I think not, threatening to stuff that gorgeous little chippy back where I found it.

But, then...I begin to think. Why can't I blend my goofy little guys with flowers and butterflies and even this gorgeous chippy? I can! So, that's when I get started, focusing on the colors, the style and everything that makes me happy about scrapbooking. Once I remind myself that it is I who is scrapbooking, and I adore flowers and flourish and ribbons and glitter, then I'm off, doing what I love. When all is said and done, they really are little REBEL Boys of Summer - reluctantly calling out with their mohawks and goofy smiles in a flourish of flowers. I hope you like it!
Incidentally - you really must try using sketches if you never have!  They are really the best inspiration.  I found this sketch over at the Dusty Attic blog ( http://dustyattic.ning.com/).  They're having a contest this month and I decided to try it.  The sketch is by Trina McClune. (check out her blog for some more inspiration http://trinamcclune.typepad.com/).
